Our first New York book exchange
While it was exciting to bring Seen Library to New York — and our first book exchange outside of Los Angeles! — it was also very nerve-racking taking something that means so much to a place it’s never been before.
With that said, I can’t thank the incredible people who joined me enough — new and old friends alike. They welcomed the seventeenth book exchange and the first in their city with open arms and made it such a special morning. It meant a lot that they’d take time out of their day to step into an unfamiliar space and share a little bit of themselves and what has moved them in the form of a book, given to another with the hope that it’ll have that same effect on them.
The theme of this particular exchange was a season of growth — and while it applied to the books that were shared, I’m realizing that it also applies to this period Seen Library (and I!) am in, too. Each guest brought a book that gave them a new perspective — one that helped instill change within themselves or their approach to others or their surroundings.
Everyone gathered at a beautiful studio in Brooklyn on a Sunday morning over KOLLO tea, Sanzo sparkling water, pastries and berries.
Some of the books shared:
Disability Visibility by Alice Wong
Too Much and Not the Mood by Durga Chew-Bose
Good Sexual Citizenship by Ellen Friedrichs
The Uninhabitable Earth by David Wallace-Wells
Radical Candor by Kim Malone Scott
The Science Fiction Hall of Fame by Ben Bova
The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
